Message from the Dean
The Faculty of Informatics, Shizuoka University, is the first faculty within the national university system in Japan dedicated to informatics. The Faculty of Informatics was established in October 1995 aiming at integrating science-oriented informatics and humanities-oriented informatics. The faculty started with two departments: the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Information Arts.
Our goal at the Faculty of Informatics is to provide education and research opportunities aiming at solving current problems based on the development/application of information technology and the consideration of human behavior and information society. Today, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is becoming an integral part of our daily lives at a tremendous rate. For example, we speak Japanese into a microphone and it is translated into English for our listeners; realistic virtual worlds are created on the Internet; and colossal amounts of data on the Internet are utilized by corporations as an important facet of their information strategies. We anticipate that the Faculty of Informatics has an exceedingly significant role to play in this present-day environment.
The Faculty of Informatics is the newest faculty at the university, and since its beginnings it has become a leader in taking on new and diverse challenges.
We are committed to continued growth in our education and research endeavors on a global level, merging the traditionally separate areas of humanities and sciences to serve our regional communities. We invite you to explore the educational opportunities available to you at Shizuoka University, here at the Faculty of Informatics.
Dr. SASAHARA Megumi, Dean, Faculty of Informatics
