Research outline
We are engaged in sciences/engineering for the relations between information technology and human mind (cognition and emotion). The research fields related to our lab can be listed as cognitive science, artificial intelligence, information processing psychology, human-computer interactions, and intellectual learning support systems. Integrating findings from various fields of human/computer sciences, we are trying to quantify human behaviors by information technologies, and to model human minds on computational systems. The results of this approach will make the computer smarter and at the same time changes the human being. In the field of behavioral informatics, we will continue to challenge frontier over humans and computers b> font>.
Computational Models of Human Cognition
We are developing computer programs to reproduce human behaviors. Among various approaches exist, we are focusing on building computational models of human minds exist behind the overt behaviors. Specifically, we express human knowledge in the form of computer programs, which simulates human memory / learning systmes. The implemented knowledges are applied to situations according to numeric parameters, which represent the human emotional systems. This approach will make the behavior of the mind exteriorize to the computer, so that we can understand the human mind in a feasible manner.
Analysis of Human Behavior utilizing Information Technology
Attaching a meaning to a large amount of data related to human behavior is an important mission of behavior informatics. By sticking to the model-based approach above, we will develop analytical methods that attaching a meaning to open-ended behavioral data.
Behavior Modifications through Interactions with Cognitive Models
How do humans interact with models of human minds, especially models that mimic their own minds. And how can human interaction with models be applied to attempts to change human minds by humans? By applying the modeling technique of mind and the quantification technique of behavior, we have built an environment where human beings interact with models.
