Simulation is a new research method other than theory and experiment. In Lee Laboratory, we construct a virtual economy or society on computer and perform various experiments in the virtual space. What will happen if [exchange rate keep dropping]? What should we do if [we want to release a mega-hit computer game]? We challenge such [problems] in our laboratory.
Agent Based Simulation
To solve problems in economy or society, we construct an economy system or a social system on computer by using agent based models and agents such like an artificial intelligence or behavior algorithm. Our past research themes are technological innovation of high-tech industry, management system, accounting system, and artificial stock market. We are not working on two subjects. First one is contents business research such like comic business, animation business, game business, and platform business. Second one is social structure research of declining birthrate problem and the related policies.
In a gaming simulation, we convert economic models, social models, or business models to gaming models and ask each participant to play a role in the game. It could be an experimental simulation environment or an environment for experience learning. Gaming simulation is a new research method to solve problems in economy and society. It is also a new education and learning method. In Lee Laboratory, we perform and design various original business gaming such like business administration, marketing and stock investment.
Contents Business and Platform Business
Exportation of information goods such like motion picture, music, animation, comic and game is expected to be a new engine for economic revival in Japan. In last century, collaboration with the local publisher is needed to export books and games; it is also necessary to make a contract with the local broadcaster to export motion pictures. However, digital distribution is constructed with the growth of information technology and global environment is changed drastically. In Lee Laboratory, we focus on the triangle relationship between platform holders, content publishers, and consumers in a contents industry and try to find out the successful business strategy for contents business and platform business.
