情報学部情報社会学科シェフタル モーデカイ ジョージ教授が9月10日に上梓した”Hiroshima: The Last Witnesses”(Dutton)がAP通信、Washington Post, Japan Today, Pittsburgh Post Gazetteで採り上げられました。
この本は、太平洋戦争末期で米軍が広島・長崎両都市に投下した原爆についてのシリーズ第1巻で、生存者へのインタビューを基に、破壊と回復の物語を描いています。M.G.シェフタルは、1945年8月6日の広島の出来事を詳細に記録し、被爆者たちが体験したその日の状況や、その後の人生を語ります。彼は日本語に精通し、日本社会に長く関わってきたことで、貴重な証言を引き出すことができました。

Professor Mordecai George Sheftall’s latest book has been featured in various international media
“Hiroshima: The Last Witnesses,” authored by Professor Mordecai George Sheftall from the School of Informatics, Faculty of Socio-Information studies, was published on September 10th, 2024 by Dutton. The book has been covered by the Associated Press (AP), The Washington Post, Japan Today, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It is the first volume in a series about the atomic bombings dropped by the American military on Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of the Pacific War, based on interviews with survivors and depicting a narrative of destruction and recovery. Dr. M.G. Sheftall offers a detailed account of the events in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, sharing the experiences of the survivors from that day and the lives they have led since. His fluency in Japanese and extensive involvement in Japanese society have enabled him to gather these invaluable testimonies.
About the Author
M.G. Sheftall has been living in Japan since 1987 and holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and Modern Japanese History from Waseda University.
