My research interests include Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) based on information science and information and communication technology.
Currently, I am focusing on research and development of fundamental technologies for sensing the motorcycle body and surrounding environment.

Bikeinformatics Laboratory

Motorcycles as a human augmentation, brings us further, faster and more flexible

In our laboratory, under the project "Bikeinformatics," we are advancing research and development of technologies to generate big data on motorcycles. This involves equipping motorcycles with sensing devices to collect data about the vehicle and its surrounding environment from various global locations. Motorcycles are an industry where Japan leads in market share and quality, widely used as transportation worldwide. Located in Hamamatsu City—a key hub for this industry—our university is uniquely positioned for this research. Despite the prevalent use of motorcycles, research in this field remains limited due to the complexity of their dynamics, with few studies incorporating information science. Given the recent affordability of sensing devices and the expansion of the Internet into a global network, our research is focused on developing sensing methods, designing devices, and creating data collection networks. We leverage advancements in information science and telecommunications to enhance the safety and efficiency of future transportation systems through innovative motorcycle technologies. Additionally, we are investigating centimeter-level accuracy in motorcycle positioning using satellite systems to enable precise tracking of their movements. This work is being extended to applied research that aims to improve urban safety and security by evaluating transportation infrastructure and civil engineering fields.
