General Selection (first and second rounds)

Selection is based on the Common Test for University Admissions and individual academic performance.

In science-related entrance examinations, the highest weight is placed on mathematics in both the first and second semesters when the Common University Entrance Test and the Individual Achievement Test are combined. In addition, the percentage of the Common University Entrance Test is higher in the second semester than in the first semester.
In the English section of the Individual Achievement Test for the first semester, in order to implement a multifaceted and comprehensive entrance examination, in addition to the common questions, some of the questions are unique to the Department of Information Science and Technology.
The Department of Information Science also asks some of these questions in English, which are unique to the Department of Information Science, to determine the necessary knowledge (information science knowledge) to be active in society based on information science.

In the first semester schedule, there are two selection categories, A (science) and B (liberal arts), and the pattern of taking the Common University Entrance Test differs depending on the category. In the individual examination, in addition to English, comprehensive questions (see Q&A on General Entrance Examinations for details) are used to evaluate the overall ability of the applicant according to the characteristics of the department.

In humanities entrance examinations, English is given the highest weight in both the first and second semesters when the Common University Entrance Test and the Individual Achievement Test are combined. In addition, the ratio of the Individual Achievement Test is higher in the second semester than in the first semester.

School recommendation based on academic performance, character, ability, and aptitude (replaces the previous recommendation entrance examination)

School Recommendation (previously the Recommendation Entrance Examination) is a special entrance examination for those who have been recommended by their high schools as being of excellent academic ability and character, with strong capabilities and aptitude in their chosen field of study.

Selection is based on a combination of the results of the University Entrance Test and an interview.

In addition to the results of the Common University Entrance Test, the selection will be based on the results of group work and individual reports (see Q&A on School Recommendation Type Selection (former Entrance Examination for Recommendation) for details on the content of the test) given in mini-lectures.

  • In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, group work evaluations were not conducted for the 2021 and 2022 entrance examinations.

The titles of the mini-lectures given over the past three years are as follows

Year Lecture Title
Entrance Examination in 2022 How can we connect the way AI learns to the way we humans learn?
~Thinking about the future with the development of AI (Artificial Intelligence)~
Entrance Examination in 2021 Examination of of the responses from the recent financial information system failure case
Entrance Examination in 2020 Creating knowledge through scientific reasoning

Selection is based on a combination of the results of the University Entrance Test and the results of an interview conducted after a mini-lecture.

The titles of the mini-lectures given over the past three years are as follows

Year Lecture Title
Entrance Examination in 2022 Rulemaking for Virtual Space
Entrance Examination in 2021 What do words convey?
Entrance Examination in 2020 Who will participate in the discussion? ~Information and Communication Technology and Representativeness of Discussion Polls~

Comprehensive selection based on evaluation of character, ability, and aptitude (Department of Computer Science only)

Comprehensive Selection (formerly known as the Admissions Office (AO) Examination) is designed for applicants whose strong sense of purpose, enthusiasm, and motivation align with the requirements of the Admissions Policy. Comprehensive Selection is available only for admissions to the Department of Computer Science, and is limited to vocational school students.
The first stage of selection involves basic academic skills tests (English and Mathematics or Mathematics and Information) to assess retention of basic skills from high school. The second stage involves an interview to assess academic ability, character, ability, and aptitude.

For more information about eligibility and the tests, refer to the Q&A section on Comprehensive Selection (formerly AO Entrance Examination)
