Considering the Meaning of Living a Human Life through Understanding Human Communication Activities
We focus on the nature of human “cognition & intelligence” and conduct research to analyze cognitive communication, elucidate interaction structures, and develop user-friendly information systems.
This research is positioned within the following areas (examples), and in our laboratory, we produce outstanding results in each area through original approaches based on insights into human cognitive processes.
- Basic research on interactive systems between humans and agents (robots) for recognizing others’ intentions
(Human-Agent Interaction Studies) - Applied research on the process of establishing common ground in dialogue
(Human Communication Studies) - Development of online media communication systems to realize multiple dialogue environments
(Real World Oriented Media Design)
The insights and outcomes obtained through these studies contribute to solving various research challenges in fields such as cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and human interfaces. Ultimately, we believe they offer a glimpse into the question of what it means for us to live “natural human” lives.
While technological advancement is expected to accelerate further, it is no exaggeration to say that human cognitive and physical capabilities have evolved differently. In this rapid change, understanding the relationship between technology and humans and appropriately designing this relationship is essential for “living natural human lives.”
Our research is centered around humans, with a keen focus on the symbiotic relationship between humans and technology. Our aim is to leverage technology to enrich human knowledge and understanding, ultimately leading to a more balanced and ‘natural human’ way of life.
